stains from screws
The mahoghany deck of our screened porch was fastened with what appear to be stainless steel screws (with that square drive hole). On the boards nearest the house, there are black stains that go in both directions from the screws -- with the grain -- but there are no stains other places on the deck. We foolishly left the deck unfinished for the first two years and are now in the process of finishing the entire porch. Our contractor has powerwashed the deck with brightener and cleaner and sanded it and we are ready to seal it. Does anyone have experience with this kind of stain? It is puzzling.
Thanks in advance for your help! |

it's just from the metal in the screw.

Treat the stains with oxalic acid & they should disappear. Then rinse profusely & allow to dry prior to finishing.
